When Emotion is the Main Character

Do you remember, when we were little, we would all sit around the kitchen table and look through piles and books and boxes of the old family photos? "remember the way the the sun felt...?" Or "I was so sad right before this moment, but then I heard the joke..."

The memories felt so visceral like you were back in the moment, or you were able to pretend that you had been there when the memory happened. Sometimes these photos were in color, and you would comment how LOUD the clothes from the 80s were. Comments made about the bright red shade of lipstick on a relative from the 40s.
Then you would come across the photos that were black and white. You could still see the fabric, you could still notice the patterns and the shadows. The way light plays off round and joyous cheeks, the soft blur of hands as people moved during the click of the camera lens. Sometimes these were from days that I often feel are impossible to think of, to dates that you can remember! I am, and will always be, a sucker for photos in black in white.
Somewhere along the way, photos went from capturing everyone they way they are to Pinterest perfect, Insta-grid worthy, curated moments. Perfect. Hair only artfully out of place, clothes - JUST - so. Yes, of course, you can feel emotion in full color. But so often, you’re busy wondering if the whole family matches, if the blue jeans and buffalo check plaid were the right vibe for fall.
(Let me stop and say—while I’m always happy to help with outfit guidance, you are 100% welcome to wear whatever makes you feel happy and comfortable. 😂❤️)

"when you photograph someone in black and white you photograph their souls" and that is the goal of my upcoming minis. I've offered personality minis in the past mostly for littles, and they were in black and white, but I also added the color copies too. This time, I just want to focus on the emotion and the moment. The way the summer freckles cross your nose, the laughter while you chase your loved one, the solemn moment in between. A stripped back storytelling session just for you. So that one day you can print them out and gather around the kitchen table and remember the way the grass tickled your knees.

I know that 20 minutes doesn't read like a lot of time, but I promise, give me 20 minutes and I can give you memories for forever. 10 photos that you will cherish for always. (Or the entire gallery if you so choose) You will get to play, you will get to rest, you will get to do whatever you would like to, whatever you feel comfortable doing. So that we can have these moments.
These aren't going to be perfect, they are going to be real.

If you're ready to create these memories and photos that feel just like you, click here to sign up for your mini session!
